Privacy Policy for Dee Links Manager

Last updated: 21 October 2026

Dee Links Manager is a browser extension for Chrome, Brave, Edge, and other Chromium-based browsers. This policy explains what the extension does with your data.

Summary

Dee Links Manager collects only the web pages you personally choose to bookmark, plus any group names you choose to give them. Your bookmark data stays on your device and is never sent anywhere.

The extension has no server, no accounts, and no analytics. It makes no network requests at all — the typeface it uses is bundled inside the extension package rather than downloaded from a font service at runtime. Nothing is ever sold or shared.

What the extension stores

When you save a page, the extension records the following about it:

Data Where it comes from Why
Page title The title of the tab you saved, as reported by your browser So you can recognise the bookmark later
Page URL The address of the tab you saved So the bookmark can open the page again
Date saved Your device's clock, at the moment you saved it So the list can be sorted newest-first
Group names Typed by you, when saving a bookmark in the popup or when editing one in the manager So a bookmark can be filed under groups you name

Group names are entirely your own labels for links you have already saved. The extension never suggests a group name, never generates one, and never infers one from a page's contents. A group name is only ever stored on the bookmarks you personally assign it to. You can assign a group at the moment you save a link (using the "Save to" dropdown next to "Add link" in the popup) or later from the manager page's inline editor — both paths write the same thing: a name you chose. If neither path is used, the bookmark lands in no group and surfaces under the catch-all in the manager filter.

This matches the Chrome Web Store's definition of web history — "the list of web pages a user has visited, as well as associated data such as page title and time of visit" — because a bookmark is a page you visited, kept with its title and a timestamp. A group name adds no information about which pages you visited; the URL already records that.

The extension also generates a random identifier for each bookmark, so entries can be edited and deleted individually. That identifier is generated on your device and has no meaning outside the extension.

What the extension does not collect

The extension does not collect, transmit, or retain any of the following:

A note on what your bookmarks reveal. A saved page's title and URL do describe what you were looking at. That is why this policy is specific: the extension stores those fields locally and never transmits them. It does not read page contents, and it does not record which pages you visited without saving them — a page only appears in the list because you saved it.

How your bookmarks are stored

Bookmarks are stored in your browser's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local) under the key bookmarks.v1. This storage:

Your light/dark theme preference is stored separately under the key theme.v1, and only as the single word light or dark. If you have not chosen one, the interface follows your operating system's setting and nothing is written.

Exporting your bookmarks

The manager page can export your list in three formats:

The HTML and JSON exports use the order your bookmarks are stored in (newest first by default); the CSV export follows the on-screen sort so the spreadsheet matches what you were looking at on the manager page. None of the three uploads anywhere — they are written to your device via your browser's normal download mechanism, and the extension does not read them back afterwards. There is no import feature in this version, so an exported file is simply a copy you keep or move yourself. Where it ends up is therefore entirely under your control: your Downloads folder, wherever you save it, or wherever you move it afterwards is beyond anything this extension can see.

One safety note: if a bookmark's address is not a valid http/https URL, it is left out of the exported file and the extension tells you how many were skipped. This keeps a malformed or unsafe address out of a file you might later import into a real browser.

Where your data goes

Your bookmarks never leave your device. They are read only by the extension's own pages — the toolbar popup and the manager tab — to display what you've saved. There is no remote server, no telemetry endpoint, no crash reporter, and no analytics or advertising SDK, and no part of your bookmark data is ever transmitted to anyone.

The extension makes no network requests at all. Every file it needs is packaged inside the extension itself:

The extension declares no host permissions at all. That means it has no granted access to contact any website, read or alter the contents of any page, or observe your activity on any site — the strongest position an extension can hold in a browser's permission model.

There is one web address referenced in the extension: a link to this privacy policy in the manager page's footer. It is an ordinary hyperlink with no script attached. The extension does not load it, preload it, or contact it on your behalf; it only navigates if you click it, at which point your browser visits the address exactly as it would if you had typed it into the address bar.

Permissions, and why each is needed

Permission Why it's needed
storage Saves your bookmarks locally so they persist between browser sessions.
tabs Reads the title and URL of a tab so a page can be saved as a bookmark, and opens a bookmark when you click one. It does not read page contents, form fields, cookies, or anything typed into a page.
contextMenus Adds "Save page to Dee Links Manager" and "Open Dee Links Manager" to the right-click menu.

That is the complete list of permissions the extension declares, and it declares no host permissions alongside them. It cannot read or change the contents of any website, on any site, at any time, and it has no permission to contact any other address.

The font settings also specify a fallback stack (-apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, Segoe UI, system-ui, Helvetica Neue, Arial, sans-serif), so if the bundled typeface is unavailable the interface still renders correctly using fonts already on your device.

Third parties

Your bookmark data is never sold, transferred, rented, or shared with third parties, and is never transmitted off your device at all.

There are no third parties involved at runtime. There is no advertising, no partner integration, no analytics provider, no crash reporter, and no other external service. The Roboto typeface is bundled with the extension and served from its own origin, so it involves no third-party service and no request to Google.

The only external organization involved in any way is whoever operates the site hosting this policy, and only if you choose to visit it — see Where your data goes.

Data retention and deletion

Your bookmarks are kept until you delete them. You can:

Deleting a group does not delete bookmarks. Removing a group from the manager page only unassigns that group from the links that had it; every bookmark involved stays in your list, appearing either under its remaining groups or in the "Unsorted" group. Renaming a group likewise only changes the label, and applies to every bookmark that had it. There is no bulk "delete all bookmarks in this group" action, by design.

Because bookmark data never leaves your device, it is not retained by anyone else, and there is nothing for us to delete on our end — there is no server-side copy. Exported files are yours, stored wherever your browser put them; see Exporting your bookmarks.

Children

Dee Links Manager is a general-purpose utility and is not directed at children. It collects no personal information from anyone, of any age.
